Aloha,
Lava flow puts on show in Kalapana! Only a 6 minute drive from The Bali Cottage at Kehena Beach.
Lava from Kilauea Volcano's east rift zone has inched closer to the Kalapana viewing area, meaning visitors can get a closer look at the flows. The Lava is now entering ocean and Lava Boat tours are now booking!
According to a written HVO statement, lava from underground tubes are supplying surface flows that are advancing slowly to the -southeast down Pulama pali, east of Royal Gardens subdivision.
The front edge of the flow is about a quarter-mile southwest of the viewing area at the end of Highway 130.
Hawaii County Civil Defense Administrator Quince Mento said that the guard shack to the viewing area is being moved out of the path of the encroaching flow.
The flows are slow-moving pahoehoe lava.
. They're kind of burning on the edges of the kipuka (an unaffected area surrounded by hardened lava) there. There are some small fires from wood and vegetation burning.
Lava viewing is from 2-10 p.m. daily with the last car allowed into the viewing area at 8 p.m. There's no charge to visitors, but a voluntary donation box is stationed at the trailhead.
Visitors can call the lava hotline at 961-8093 for daily updates on viewing hours, closures, if any, and potential hazards.
Lava viewers are advised to wear athletic shoes or hiking boots and to carry a flashlight and bottled water.
The Lava is now flowing into ocean and Lava Boat Tours are booking!
A Hui Ho!

Aloha!
If you are looking into visiting the Big Island, you should seriously consider checking out one of the most beautiful & yet unknown areas on the east side.
The islands of Hawaii are sacred, and beautiful in every aspect. To see past this fact is impossible... & to experience it first-hand is a gift in itself. You should seriously consider vacation rentals because they can you offer something that high-rise hotels will never be able to.
The Bali Cottage at Kehena Beach is a vacation home that sits right off the coast, almost directly across from the famous clothing-optional Kehena Beach. This cottage has a beautiful view of the sweeping coastline, and is steps away from the trail that leads you to the beach.
Kehena is located on the East Side of the Island, south of Hilo and near the historical Pahoa town.
This is definetely worth your time, check it out: Come and stay in an area that is remote and full of Hawaii's beauty and tradition! Be part of our Ohana!
We wish you the best of memories in your visit, and hope that you truly embrace our 'Aina.
A hui hou kakou!!
