This was the honeymoon of our dreams! This cottage is such a beautiful place to stay. It is very private and peaceful! The cottage itself is beautifully furnished and just breathtaking! The Bali Cottage is a step away from the pretty black sand at Kehena Beach. Wow, just an amazing retreat in a lovely location!!!!

Dear Janet & Tim;

You have done a wonderful thing here at The Bali Cottage. We are so blessed & thankful that some how we have found this breath taking; most beautiful cottage right off the beach! We couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our Honeymoon! Thank you so much!!! Jaime and I are very happy and pleased that we both were able to spend our fist week of being newly-weds here at the Bali Cottage

All of the detail in the Cottage is very beautiful and different and nicely furnished. This is a peaceful and amazing place to be, leaving the busy world of San Jose, CA. We really enjoyed falling asleep to the sound to the sound of the waves and all of the jungle creature noises were neat. We recorded the noises the creatures made and can't wait to show our family the videos and pictures we took.

Our stay at the Bali Cottage was peacful, relaxing, enjoyable, and tons of fun. Once again you have done an amazing thing to provide a place like this for people to stay! Mahalo, for the wonderful honeymoon Jaime and I got to experience We are so thankful for the wonderful memories we get to take home with us!

Once again...Mahalo

As you have already read, this is a truly wonderful cottage in an incredible location:

Thank you Janet & Tim!

The Black Sand Beach just afternoon is a truly magical place, the dead tree in the middle, with it's gnarled root system exposed over 6 feet above the sand adds a sureal touch! We highly recommend the little restaurant at the very end of route 137 (turn right outside the gate and keep going straight!) Plus the Kava/Kawa/Awa bar in the evening is another hidden treasure.

Last night the stars were fantastic & we hit the Hot Tub with a glass of Red Wine and simply marvelled at the night sky!

THIS IS PARADISE!

Off on the rest of our honeymoon to the other side of the Island, then on to Kauai...But it will be hard to beat this little corner of Peace & Happiness!

Mahalo!   This was an amazing experience and a wonderfull honeymoon.  We were so busy the first few days visiting all the sites that we actually didn't really go to the beach! 8)  But it was a beautiful cottage, and the pictures do no justice in comparison to actually being here.  We woke up in the morning to go sit on the rocks and watch the dolphins which was so peaceful!  I wish we would have been able to get to know you guys a little more, but unfortunatly I got sick, and spent much of the last few days in bed.  Anywhere else I would have been very upset for getting sick, but being able to hear the waves and the frogs sing was so relaxing!  Thank you guys for such a great honeymoon, we look forward to returning!  Mahalo!        Las Vegas, NV

Thanks to you guys, we have lost track of the days.

All the problems of the world have seem to fade into the distance. My blood pressure is at peace at the Bali Cottage as is the rest of my spirit.

We knew this would be a great place but until we arrived and were greeted by Janet our host with a smile and necklace ( Lei ) of welcome, did  I (we) start understanding what we found.

This is such a happy place and the two of you make it  possible. I could keep on about the peace we found here but others have said it better then I can.

They said "to everything there is a beginning and end". We choose to think this is just a beginning.

Aloha T and J,

We had a real wonderful 3 days stay at your beautiful place.

This cottage is really a great relaxing place.

You live close to one of the nicest beach in the world!.

We are a bit jealous of your situation, it's far away from Quebec landscapes and climate.

We thank you for your generous and great hospitality, I'm sure we will come back one day.

What an amazing place! We just returned from there and it still seems unreal. The attention to every detail that Janet and Tim put into this cottage is incredible. Not to mention the hospitality - a handwritten welcome card, little gifts for the kids, and a personal tour guide around the area. We were so lucky to find this place, I can't say enough great things about it. It was the highlight of our trip!

Your lovely Bali Cottage lived up to our expectations from your web page and more! The Lanai below made it seem like we were camping out in style of Hawaiian royalty.

The cottage is a work of art and craftsmanship.

The quiet neighborhood, beautiful beaches, and soft perfumed air made this a unique vacation. Thank you for your advice and taking us to your favorite snorkeling pond!

You two have created a peaceful sanctuary here that only illumintes the rugged beauty of this Island. We just wanted you to know how much we appreciated all the little details, it's very clear you've put a lot of time and thought into this place. Janet your warmth and openness made us feel so welcome, plus all of your little tips on the area helped us to experience things we wouldn't have otherwise. It was seven magical days. Janet and Tim ( and Meeka) were terrific. We snorkeled. Went to the zoo. Ate at Kalapana Cafe a lot. The cottage was so relaxing we didn't go out that much, but it didn't matter--we didn't need or even wanna leave to have fun. The place has everything and more, but what really made it special for us were the hosts; mahalo. Keith & Carolee

The Bali Cottage is fantastic. It has everything you will need and is located in what is by far the the most beautiful area on The Big Island. My wife and I are not into the big resort thing. We like something a little more private. The Bali Cottage was perfect. The best way I could describe it is, it was like staying at a friends beach house. That's the way Janet and Tim made it feel. They were always available whenever we needed help or had a question. And though they live right behind the cottage in their beautiful Bali style home, we had all the privacy we could want. My advice to anyone reading this review, if you are thinking about a vacation to the The Big Island and have the opportunity to book your stay at The Bali Cottage, DO IT!!!!!

I have been married to the same woman for 42years. She has accompanied me literally ALL OVER THE WORLD! We stayed at The Bali Cottage at Kehena Beach for 8 days...we both felt it wasn't long enough! The Bali Cottage was perfect, spotless, no detail was spared. Our host was what everyone hopes for ...Welcoming, charming, at tentative, and being local knows the out of the way places and how to get there unlike some guidebooks. She was honest about the "Clothing Optional" beach and tells all her guests who feel uncomfortable there about another "Secret Beach" where you can have the place all to yourself! You also can go down to Kehena Beach in the morning and it is ALWAYS empty. We watched the sun rise on the beach while the spinner dolphins jumped, we even saw a Humpback Whale and her calf!!! This was only 75ft out in the water! There is so much to do here, Kehena Beach, “Secret Beach, Shipman Beach, Pohoiki, Kaimu Beach, Kumukahi Lighthouse (ALL HAVE SAND…Where you can RELAX!)…I could go on, but then I would sound like a guidebook. My point is…THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH TO DO HERE, to run out of things to do. My wife and I haven’t had this much fun since we made our two children. The weather, the sights, the people…We felt like Honeymooners all over again. This place was a Bargain! We even told Janet she is not charging enough; she told us a lot of her guest make the same comment. This place books up fast and for a good reason! It’s PARADISE any way you look at it. This part of the Big Island feels more like what Maui felt like in the mid 60’s. I am a Marine, Master Gunnery Sergeant (MGySgt) and am very Marine looking. Yet the Hippies & locals were nicer than anywhere else in all of the State of Hawaii. Here it really is “to each..his own” Very non-judgmental. All in all this was the Perfect Vacation Destination.

Dear Janet and Tim, We are writing this sitting on the black sand beach, and while I am trying to stay in the beauty of this moment, we are already planning our next trip back! What a glorious place for our Honeymoon! From your welcome hugs to all the little details; (flowers, bamboo for luck, our cute little privacy screen). Everything was done to make us feel welcome and at home. Mission accomplished!! Seeing whales as we ate our breakfast was a great way to begin the New Year. We're off to our next adventure, but without a doubt, when we think of Hawaii in the future, our minds, eye's will return to the Bali Cottage. Mahalo and Love, Joel and Amy Venice, CA

October 30, 2009 Thank you Janet and Tim for a great week. Even though the website makes the cottage look beautiful, it's not until you spend time here that it truly reveals itself. You were both great host's, you thought of everything. To the next visitor's, we would highly recommend a boat tour to the volcano with Melvin Brown, Pohoiki Lava Tours, he is a legendary Captain on the island (quite a character) and the trip is not for the faint of heart. This is a "raw rugged" experience that you will never forget! The number is (808) 965-9879 or ask his wife Patty at the food shack down the road. Kalapana Cafe. October 15 , 2009 Dear Janet, It's difficult to describe how wonderful our vacation was, but we will try. First of all, waking up to that fantastic view right outside the cottage is incredible. The Pacific ocean, the blue skies, the swaying coconut trees is literally heaven on earth. Being able to walk to that fantastically private black sand beach was also something we look forward to every morning. Everything in the cottage were beautiful and practical. Even the coqui frogs were wonderful, the songs of their singing put us right to sleep every night! I wish there was a soundtrack of their song that we can purchase to buy back to the mainland! To the guest's reading this, here are some of the most must see and must do's: - Lava viewing at the end of route 130. Get there after dark to watch the worl being born. - Snorkel at Kapoho tide pools. Wear reef shoes and marvel at the little fishies. - Try Loco Moco at Pahoa Village Cafe. So fattening and so tasty. - Drive to Volcano National Park and check out some amazing scenery. ENJOY! Ray and Maureen K. DC

Oct. 7, 2009 Mahalo Janet and Tim for sharing your lovely oceanside retreat with us. We can't get over the gorgeous view and the lovely decor- call HGTV immediately!! All of the thoughtful extras you include- fruit, coffee, hair dryer, flashlights dvd's- made us feel right at home- if home was a designer Balinese bungalow overlooking the ocean in the middle of paradise! We had two fantastic massages with Stefanie- nothing could be better than getting a relaxing massage here while listening to the waves crash... thank you so much for the referral. No luck on the lava viewing for us last night, the winds were blowing the smoke towards the viewing area... alas! We will just have to come back for another stay with next time we visit my parents in Kona! We got a great view of the lava from the end of the road though- close enough!! Sept. 30, 2009 We arrived here on our first trip ever to Hawaii, exhausted after nearly 48 hrs without sleep, and found this place to be an absolute sanctuary. The location is unbelievably beautiful, the cottage exquisitely furnished and pretty comprehensively fitted out, with everything from mosquito repellent to snorkel gear. Your Bali Cottage on Kehena Beach is the best medicine for those who want to get away and feel the "TRUE HAWAIIAN" experience. The views from the balcony of the cottage are so breathtaking and that you can see the sun rise and set is just beyond words. Just wasn't enough time on this trip to enjoy more time with you both and have more adventures, but that just means we will most certainly be making plans for the next trip.
